Newbie? This is for you.1st Timers (pun intended) Hands-on Timing Seminar
When: November 20, 2010 This seminar is meant for people who have never timed a race before in their life, but will be expected to do so this coming season. They have priority on registration. Participants with low, but not zero, experience will be accepted as space allows. The seminar is limited to ten participants in order to maintain the hands-on nature of the seminar. Contacting me as soon as possible is essential. Participants have equipment to find and bring, and homework to do in advance of the seminar. Contacting me well in advance will allow you to have a more productive day. (diverson@burkemtnacademy.org)
Equipment to bring:
1) A laptop, with power cord.
2) The latest version of Split Second installed on the laptop. 3) A paid and working version of the software dongle from Split Second that allows you to access the timing features. 4) One of the electronic timers that you will be using during the race season. 5) The proper cables to connect that timer to the computer. 6) A start box. 7) The proper cables to connect the start box to the timer. 8) One set of finish eyes. 9) The proper cables to connect the finish eyes to the timer. 10) Fresh batteries all around. 11) The latest Master Packet of alpine forms downloaded onto your computer. The seminar is going to be at the BMA Kitchel Science Center. The best way to find where this is would be to google “1925 Mountain Road, East Burke, VT 05832” That should put the pin right on the small parking lot in front of the building. The science center is a small building that sits downhill off the road. My (ambitious) goal is to have everybody set up by 9:00am. If you can get here by 8:00am, great. But, I know what that means in terms of a departure time if you have more than a two hour drive... If people dribbled in between 8:00am and 8:30am that would work the best. If you’ve done your homework and you feel confident that you can set things up by yourself, I’d shoot for getting here at 8:45. If you’ve got no clue how any of the parts go together, I’d shoot for 8:00am on the dot. My goal is to have everybody out the door by 4:00pm. There is no cost for this seminar. But, that also means that I’m not going to be providing any frills like lunch, muffins, cookies, coffee, etc. It’s really "bring your own." Also, this is race simulation. We will be taking a 30 minute “break” for lunch. But what usually happens is that we spend that time talking as we’re eating. If you have any questions about anything, please let me know ahead of time. The more questions we can answer before hand about “how does this plug into that?” the more everybody will get out of the actual seminar.
Please RSVP ASAP. Thank you, and see you soon.
