GateKeepers' Responsibilities

BEFORE The Race
When you get to your gate assignment
complete the "GATE JUDGE DIAGRAM CARD" side of your "GATE JUDGE CARD"
using the correct symbols u=Blue Flag, m=Red Flag and @=Gate Judge Position (Where you are standing).
Make your sample drawings BEFORE the run starts.
Where is NO free skiing on the race trail, side slip or snowplow only.
You must wear your GATEKEEPERS BIB, so races can identify you if they have a question if they made a valid pass of your gates.

DURING The Race
FAULTS
Mark ONLY the FAULTS.
Draw racers path through your gates and indicate their number, Racer(s)#.
You can use the same drawing if more than one racer had the same fault.
If a racers ski comes off, they are Disqualified (DQ) make a note on your card (J4's & J5's can continue??).
VALID PASS
Valid pass = both boots and ski tips break the plane of a gate (the imaginary line drawn between the poles of one gate),
A racer can go through a gate in any direction.
If you are not sure, give the benefit of the doubt to the racer.
COMMUNICATE
If a racer falls/misses a gate, you are only to respond if the racers asks you.
you should say "BACK" if they missed a gate.
You should say "GO" if they made a valid pass of all your gates.
FIX-IT
Velcro panels on gates - reattach (if not familiar with, look at before run starts).
Missing or broken gates - do whatever you can to get the gate in before the next race comes,
then call up/down to HOLD race to make a permanent fix.
If broken, let the race crew know if it is an outside or inside gate, the color of the gate and the number of the gate.
Help the race crew member when they arrive with the repair.
Don't move around when a racer is in sight.
Yell COURSE when a racer is coming and someone doesn't know the racer is coming.
INTERFERENCE
If a racer is interfered with, the racer MUST
Leave the course immediately and
Report to the nearest gatekeeper or official.
You should
Write down what happened, so the racer can receive a rerun.
If possible, let an official, someone with a race radio, a person on a spot headset or
yell up/down to let timing know that the racer was interfered with and should receive a rerun.

AFTER THE RUN
After completion of the run give your "GATE JUDGE CARD" to the head gatekeeper at the bottom of the course.
DO NOT leave the hill until this is done or your card will be INVALID and can not be used.
If you have faults you must be available (at ATC or to the jury) until the protest period is up.

AFTER THE RACE
After completion of the race (second run) please help the race crew.
Bring down all of your outside gates and place them in a neat pile at the bottom of the course.
You must go down to the ATC office sign out and pick up your vouchers if you are not a season pass volunteer.
If you don't sign out you will not get any credit for working that day.

If you are scheduled to work a race and can not make it, please e-mail YOU@Blahblah.org or let the Training Center know by Wednesday.
