USS MEMBERSHIP UPDATE 10.20

Hopefully, you’re all gearing up for a productive, albeit a different kind of season. Here are a few notable updates and reminders to keep in mind as we go into the season.

  1. The late fee (early-bird) deadline has been bumped from Oct. 15 to Nov. 1.

  2. All members turning 18 or older during the season must have their own membership account where they are the primary member. This allows them to take both required and optional educational courses such as Introduction to Avalanches, coaching fundamentals, etc.

  3. Minimum membership requirements for most adult members, including those turning 18 during the season, include the following items.

    1. SafeSport training

                                                     i.     Training is an annual requirement. Members must take the Core SafeSport training in the first season

ii.     In each of the next three seasons, they are required to complete one of the refresher courses which take approximately, 15-30 minutes each

iii.     The series will begin again in season four with the Core training requirement

iv.     Training may be accessed on www.safesport.org. Please note, training is not available through the www.usskiandsnowboard.org.

                                                   v.     There is no grace period for athletes turning 18. SafeSport training must be complete by their 18th birthday.

    1. Background screening

                                                     i.     Screening is required every two seasons. Individuals must register for U.S. Ski & Snowboard membership as a first step

ii.     Member Services will then send instructions on how to register for screening through the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI)

iii.     Those turning 18 are required to complete screening no more than 45 days following their 18th birthday

    1. Introduction to Avalanches

                                                     i.     This 10-minute course outlines the basics of avalanche awareness. The course is accessible through the membership online account at my.usskiandsnowboard.org

ii.     Completion is required for membership activation

  1. FIS Activation

    1. Registrations are not activated for anyone 18 or over until all membership requirements have been met

    2. FIS licenses will be activated for those turning 18 during the season. However, U.S. Ski & Snowboard memberships will be inactivated for incomplete requirements based on the above timeline for each requirement.

  1. As a reminder, U.S. Ski & Snowboard has a no-refund policy. Members/parents are now required to certify they have read and understand the policy as part of the online registration process. That policy appears as noted below.

  1. U.S. Ski & Snowboard Refund Policy – I understand U.S. Ski and Snowboard has a no-refund policy for memberships and licenses. All payments for memberships and licenses are irrevocable, non-refundable and non-creditable. Further memberships may not be transfer from person-to-person or season-to-season.

Finally, please be aware that we are working with IT, Competition Services and Sport Education to streamline and update both public and private tools. One example of the impending changes will be to pull public coach and official lookups within the overall member lookup. The background screening lookup tool will be deactivated. New language will appear on public member lookup to include a link to the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s Central Disciplinary Database at https://uscenterforsafesport.org/response-and-resolution/disciplinary-database/.

 Please reach out with questions.

 Thank you,
